Market Coverage Strategies

Marketing managers use three basic market coverage strategies: undifferentiated, differentiated, and concentrated.

An undifferentiated strategy focuses on the common needs of consumers rather than their different needs. Products are designed to appeal to the largest number of potential buyers.

A differentiated strategy decides to divide and target several market segments, a different marketing plan for each segment to maximize sales and increase profits.

Coverage strategy, the concentrated marketing strategy, gears to serve a large share of one or very few markets, and is best for firms with limited resources. This allows firms to gain stronger position in the segments it targets because of the greater emphasis on these targeted segments.

Build your network

Marketing your product or service to a limited area does not do much. Eventually you will need to expand to grow your company or your business. Having a large network does not happen in an instant – it is a result of months or years of establishing business or personal relationships with potential clients. Keep track of your clients, even those who have “rejected” your offer or those who were not interested at that time. Keep the line of communication open, not necessarily advertising your business all the time. Maintaining this relationship may not result to a sale, but it may become a bridge for other people to know your company or business, and grow your network.

Give recognition for a job well done. One need not wait for the completion of a project before giving recognition to the staff. Acknowledge an employee for achieving a minor milestone. A pat in the back, a positive word. Recognition need not be grand.

Monitor performance, but do not be too critical. Encourage, give suggestions, lead. Avoid nagging and correcting them as much as possible.

Be visible. Work with your team directly. Do not spend all your office hours glued to your chair.

Be open about your personal life and get to know your team members in a more personal level. Knowing what’s going on with their lives will help you in dealing with their peculiarities.

Write your frustrations away

23 February, 2009 (06:53) | General Info | By: editor

Everyone of us has experienced feeling frustrated about our jobs. One of the most productive and non-destructive outlets you can use to let your angst out is by writing.

It doesn’t have to be a literary piece – it’s just something you do to release the tension you feel. Just write what you’re feeling at the moment so that you can let go of all those negative feelings. You can also listen to some relaxing music for awhile so that you can completely calm down. Then take a couple of deep breaths before you go back to work. You should also take a short break from time to time, and don’t let yourself work straight so your brain can have a rest – take a power nap or eat a light snack to keep you on your toes.

The Company’s Greatest Asset is their People

30 January, 2009 (05:31) | General Info, Tips for Motivation | By: Administrator

assetA company, even the greatest and best rely on the many people who are responsible for the success of any organization. The bosses may get all the credit for a good job his team did but he should never take all the glory and include his people in the recognition. Recognition deserved is recognition given. Get a raise because of your team’s good performance, treat your people and get them to feel the success of a job well done. Take care of your people being professional and compassionate at the same time. Never treat everybody the same for they are not, each and every employee is different and your job as manager is to know that and to use those differences to make a great team. Use your power to recommend people for better jobs/pay when ever necessary, no man is an island and without the employee running your errands or sweeping the floor, there would be no success.

Hard Times Ahead? Who Cares!

Telemarketing
That should be the attitude most people in the marketing field or just about any field should have, why? First, it’s not your fault that the economy is on the rocks and people lose their jobs because of this. Another fact is that with the current economic recession, people are not buying so just accept the fact you might not be selling as well. There are still customers out there as they have always been, they’re just harder to convince so work harder.
Stress levels fly and your blood pressure is right after it, take breaks and spend time with the family. Try to help diversify the company’s marketing strategies with input from all your fellow marketers. Explore avenues that have been untried like new media including podcasts, blogging and many other sponsorship opportunities created by the internet. You may also encourage new ventures with other firms with similar goals as you have creating a partnership towards a common goal which is to traverse the uncertain economic waters of this recession.

Motivating Movies

Seeing a movie is recommended by people, even doctors to boost your moral whenever you feel so lousy and you feel that nothing is happening with your career inspite of working doubly hard and making all the necessary adjustments and personal sacrifices just to be noticed by the higher ups. Movies have the power to inspire mainly because we tend to relate to the characters that are being portrayed. And also because some movies are true to life stories. Stories that have been experienced by ordinary people like us, first hand.

  • The Secret of My Success – is a romantic movie but deals with a mail room worker who poses as an executive of a huge company to get close to one of the genuine executives.
  • Stand and Deliver – is a true story of achievement and persistence in the midst of trouble and heartaches. A story about a math teacher who convinces the high school students that studying is important.
